Abismo Anhumas is a cave located in Bonito-MS,
one of the main ecotourism centers in South America. This “hole”, as it is called by the monitors of the team, is on the Anhumas Valley, which is known for concentrating wonderful caves such as Gruta do Lago Azul (Blue Lake Cavern), Nossa Senhora Aparecida and the abyss itself.
The amazing adventure was only fully open to visitation in
1999,
with the start of researches, training and qualification of personnel.
The small crack on the ground is just
the beginning of the rapel,
a technique of going down cliffs or rocks by sliding down a rope.
It takes a 72 meter-descent to reach the bottom of the cave, in a tour that takes around 5 minutes. So, folks, you should enjoy it minute by minute!
After the rappel, the visitor arrives at a floating deck on a crystal clear lake which is 80 meters deep.
Dozens of calcareous cones punctuate the lake and its surroundings, with formations as big as 20 meters tall. To observe them closer, people jump into the water (at a medium temperature of 180o C) and float among this “valley of cones” formed thousands of years ago. Many people compare this sensation with that of flying in a surreal, oneiric environment.
Certificated divers have the right to go deeper into the Abismo Anhumas, more precisely 18 meters down. The scuba diving discloses new images, luminosity and the whole amplitude of one of the most sensational caves in the planet.
Anyone who goes to the Abismo Anhumas wants to return there. Those who don’t know it, already know what they are missing.
